Luminaries - This is one of twelve first limited-edition of fine art screen prints collection, signed and numbered by artist Lev Gal Wertman. The full edition includes twelve different Images, with only 50 prints from each Image. The screen prints were created based on the original sketches and painting made for the design of the “Steven and Beena Levy Stained Glass Window Collection by Artist Lev Gal Wertman”.
The window is inspired by Genesis 1/15—18
“15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth. And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good”.
In that window Gal is capturing the movement, energy and speed of earth rotation together with the slow motion zero gravity that astronauts feel in space.
The windows were installed in 2018 in the Barer Family Sanctuary at Gottesman RTW Academy. The windows are set in the walls surrounding the sanctuary and depict the story of Creation as told in the book of Genesis. The main values that lead the creation of the project were: working directly with the original text, igniting the natural curiosity of the students and keeping a contemporary point of view.
